Are you focusing too much on food?



When we think about dieting success, too often the fixation is on food, from diet culture and so many methods that have you ONLY consider what you eat.. 


Avoid food, restrict food, track food, count food.


Is there any wonder to are SO preoccupied by food? 

Constantly questioning yourself, FEARING getting it wrong? 

(Fun fact, you will never get it wrong)


But in all honesty, food is very little to do with it.

Our bodies are pretty incredible at managing hunger.

It’s our minds that become consumed by perfection, by control, because realistically that’s all you’ve been taught. 


But this fixation, this control, is sending you into a spiral of loss of control. 


It’s Monday, and you’re already overwhelmed by food decisions, you so desperately want to change, and get it right this time. 


Instead of fixating on food, consider the impacts on your nervous system that affect your mindset and your behaviours and subsequently the food you choose.


Example: 

When you are overwhelmed and flooded with emotions, you default to the chocolate, despite telling yourself this week you will avoid the chocolate. 


You blame the chocolate, yourself, your willpower…

You aren’t addicted to any food, 

Nor is it fact that you can’t not overeat food.


But food has been a coping mechanism for so many.

A default around “failure” 

A soothing, a comfort.


Food is the end of the puzzle.


You’re overeating not because of the food, but because of your dysregulation. 


Zoom out, what can you do this week for your nervous system, when you are overwhelmed, when life does happen.


For me ALWAYS, it’s regulation breathing, it’s gratitude and journalling and now it’s asking for help, setting firmer boundaries that mean I can’t do what I used to but that’s ok because my focus is on my health…

Because you want to nourish your body, 

You want to better your health.


And you do not need another diet plan or diet intervention that eats at your confidence.
